GERMANY, GREECE AND ISRAEL Fall 1999IntroductionOut of the blue, we received a phone call from a man from Israel who introduced himself as a member of a part of Linda's family that we didn't even know existed. Family members in Israel proceeded to call, fax and email introducing themselves and prevailing upon us to come to Israel to meet them. We decided it was fate. We hadn't been to Israel since 1982 and the idea of meeting new family and visiting mine again plus seeing the changes in the country became more and more appealing as our excitement grew. It was only natural to expand our itinerary to include Greece, a perennial favorite of ours, and when we discovered that our newfound family adores thermal bathing, as we do, we decided to begin our trip in Baden-Baden, Germany, where they annually enjoy their thermal vacations. They guaranteed there'd be no better place to overcome our jet lag before continuing on our holiday. So our itinerary was in place: Germany, Greece and Israel. Our Air Canada flight from Toronto to Frankfurt was routine except for when my wife went missing! We were seated on opposite sides of the aisle and we both fell asleep shortly after dinner. I awoke a short while later and saw that Linda's seat was empty. Thinking nothing of it, I slept again but when I opened my eyes a bit later and found that Linda hadn't returned, I became somewhat concerned. I figured that Linda had discovered a few empty seats together and was stretched-out somewhere or other. Upon further investigation, Linda was nowhere to be found. Now very concerned, I found a stewardess and told her of my plight requesting that she check the washrooms. She asked me what seat Linda has been seated in and when I told her she smiled, took me by the hand and led me back to my seat in the last row of the first economy cabin, against a bulkhead. She pointed to the floor behind my seat and there was my sweetheart, lying on the extra blanket she had requested from the stewardess, her head on a pillow with a blanket tucked-in around her oblivious to the world and obviously enjoying a great night's sleep. And she thinks she's not creative!
